Understanding your preferences

You need to ask yourself some questions before deciding which watch you want to buy.

Before embarking on your watch-buying journey, take some time to understand your preferences.

What brand do I like? What style do I like? Am I wearing the watch daily or only at certain formal gatherings? Does it need to have automatic movement or should I be looking for a quartz? Those questions will narrow down your options.

Researching Brands and Models

Before buying a watch, you should do some research. Buying a watch could be a big investment, so you better be well informed about the pros and cons of each feature.

Each brand has its own unique heritage, craftsmanship, and reputation. Take your time to read websites, articles, books or blogs like this one.

Let us give you a little summary about the brands of watches we sell the most:

For example:
Say you are looking for a clean but sophisticated watch to wear everyday, that you can also wear when you’re attending a business lunch or a formal reception.
We would recommend the full steel Cartier Santos Galbée. Due to its ultra thin quartz movement, the Galbée has a sleek, slightly curved design that integrates seamlessly with its bracelet.

Unpopular opinion: we often prefer the quartz version above the automatic.
Not only does it allow for a sleeker design, you don't have to set te time every time you wear something else for a few days. If you have several watches in your collection this can be a big deal in the morning!

Setting a Budget

Setting a budget is obviously a big factor in looking for the right luxury watch. While it's tempting to buy the most expensive timepiece you can afford, it's crucial to strike a balance between quality and affordability.

Determine how much you're willing to spend and stick to your budget to avoid overspending.

Remember that a higher price doesn't always guarantee better quality or value, so prioritize features that are important to you and be prepared to make trade-offs if necessary.

For example:
You’re looking for a watch and are very into Rolex. If it is the first timepiece you’re buying, you definitely don’t want to overspend. Wether it's just a regular day at the office, or you're fully suited up for a business dinner. No worries, we got you.

A great option is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 1002. It sold for less than 3000 euros, proving that Rolex doesn’t have to be crazy expensive.

This watch is often regarded as the purest model in the Rolex line-up. This being a 34mm, it can be worn by both men and women.

The other obvious option is the Cartier Santos Dumont. A model with a lot of heritage, that has known many evolutions starting in 1904. We are specifically talking about the latest version in full steel with the blue crocodile leather strap, of which we currently have one in stock!

We're offering a one-time blog-reader discount on this watch. Just mention the code ‘BLOG-READER’ in your message, and you will receive a 100 euro discount!

This now equates to a 20% discount on the official dealer price. Not too bad a deal considering this watch looks completely as new, right?

Exploring Movement Types

The movement, or the mechanism that powers the watch, might be an important factor to consider when buying a luxury timepiece.

There are three main types of watch movements: Mechanical, Automatic and Quartz.

Mechanical movements, characterized by intricate gears and springs, are revered for their craftsmanship and precision but require regular hand-winding to keep accurate time.

Automatic movements, a favourite among watch enthusiasts, combine the craftsmanship of mechanical movements with the convenience of self-winding rotor mechanisms.

Quartz movements, on the other hand, are powered by a battery and offer excellent accuracy and low maintenance.

Understanding Complications

In the world of luxury watches, complications refer to any additional features or functions beyond basic timekeeping. These can range from simple date displays and chronographs to more complex complications such as tourbillons, perpetual calendars, and moon phases. While complications add to the watch's complexity and allure, they also increase its price and require more service and care.

Decide which complications are essential to you and select a watch that offers the perfect balance of functionality and elegance.

Try Before You Buy

While online shopping offers convenience and accessibility, it should always be a possibility to try on a watch in person before making a decision. We are dedicated to accurately portraying the condition of each watch we sell, but some details just don't pick up on camera. Asking a seller for more pictures should never be a problem, so always ask this before meeting with strangers!

Ensuring Authenticity and Warranty

When buying a luxury watch, it's essential to ensure its authenticity and legitimacy to avoid falling victim to counterfeit or replica timepieces. There are several ways to tell fakes from the real deal, but a good start is the presence of the original box & papers.

This is also called a Full Set, meaning that with the watch comes the original box and official papers/card from when it was sold new by the Authorised Dealer (AD).

Trust is one of our core missions.

Even papers can be forged, cards can be faked. The only real proof  is an inspection of the watch itself. Get this done by an experienced watchmaker before making the purchase. Let him check out the movement with specialist tools and equipment.

At least this is what we do. Any watch bought from us has been checked and approved, so no worries about that.

Not sure if a watch is legit? Schedule an appointment to let us legit-check it for you!

Found what you needed?

Buying a luxury watch is more than just a transaction; it's an investment in style, craftsmanship, and heritage. By understanding your preferences, researching brands and models, setting a budget, exploring movement types and so on, you should be able to navigate the world of luxury watches with confidence.

So, which one is it going to be?
