Cartier Tank

Price: €1.500

The Cartier Tank is one of the most known dress watches and has a rich history to back it up. In 1917, Louis Cartier designed the Tank to be a subtle yet elegant wristwatch, that could be worn with great comfort in any situation.

Louis took inspiration from the WW1 battle-tank, the Renault FT-17, which may sound strange at first, but actually makes sense. In that period, most timepieces were pocket watches following the a round shape resembling an actual clock.

The Tank combined the FT-17’s sharp lines, while also attributing to its round overall shape. Moreover, the wristwatch was meant to be worn by the driver of the battle tank. Because the inside was incredibly small, the watch certainly couldn’t be too big and bulging for the safety of the driver, to not be caught behind anything inside.

This feature is still today one of it’s hallmarks, and why it’s such a great companion for daily life. Whether you’re wearing a suit, a hoodie or nothing at all, the Tank will compliment your look. This 90’s iteration is called the Tank Vermeil which signifies the gold plating. The dial is often referred to as the ‘Art-Deco dial’ for its resemblance to the 1920’s art movement.

In the case of watch collecting, this is a must-have for any watch lover and especially a great entry into the luxury watch segment.
